Every once in a while, you host gatherings and parties in your
home. The most challenging logistics you have to take care of is the food and how you serve them. Preparation of the food
is one thing, but serving them and keeping them fresh and warm is another. There are plenty of catering
services in your neighborhood, but you can save a great deal of money when you cook and prepare the food
yourself, especially if you cook well. You have two options in serving food with guests of 20 people or more.
These are the buffet warmer and the chafing dish.

Saving for a Party
So you are hosting a party with approximately 25 guests in your
home, and everybody in the house is helping to prepare the food. Your budget is limited and you want to keep the
food constantly warm for your 25 guests. What do you do? The difference between the buffet warmers and the chafing dish is how they look. The buffet
warmer is a set of three or four food containers where you place dishes to warm. On the other hand, the
chafing dish is a single tray and dish container usually lit with a burner underneath to keep the food
warm.
Buffet Warmers or Chafing Dishes?
The standard heating technology for the buffet warmer is steam. You place
water on the base of platform where you place the trays of food to warm. The heating is effective because it allows
steam to heat 100% of the bottom surface of your trays, keeping the food warm on all corners of your tray. The same
is true for electric heated buffet warmers. This way, you do not need to keep stirring your food to keep
everything warm.
On the other hand, chafing dishes are singular trays with one
or two burners underneath. While these burners are effective in heating your food, the heat is not properly
displaced, that is why the server needs to keep stirring the food at intervals. You may opt for an electric chafing
dish, with a wider electric heating panel to heat your tray equally on all bottom surfaces.
How Much Do Buffet Warmers Cost?
The typical buffet warmer with three trays for three dishes will cost you
around $100 to $150. However, the most important factor you need to check is the dimension of the trays
you are buying. Ideally, a single tray will measure 18 inches by 8 inches in diameter, and have a depth of at
least 2 inches. A food warmer with this size will usually cost $64 to $80. If you are planning on preparing
four dishes, you will need four trays and that will cost around $250 to $300. You might think that is
expensive, but compared to catering services that charge as much as $1500 for only 4 dishes, you are actually
saving A LOT!
